The core function of water-stop through-wall screws is to block water seepage channels inside the wall using the water-stop plate in the middle of the screw.If the water-stop plate is not welded securely,it will directly cause wall leakage.The principle and leakage risks can be explained in detail from the following two aspects:
1.Insecure Welding of the Water-Stop Plate Destroys the"Water Seepage Barrier"
The design logic of water-stop through-wall screws is as follows:during concrete pouring,the screw penetrates the formwork on both sides of the wall,and the water-stop plate in the middle bonds tightly with the concrete to form a horizontal"physical barrier".When rainwater,groundwater,or condensed water inside the wall tries to seep along the gap between the screw and the concrete,the water-stop plate blocks the water from spreading further,thereby preventing leakage.
If the water-stop plate is not welded securely(e.g.,there are weld cracks,cold welding,or incomplete penetration),gaps will form between the water-stop plate and the screw,or the water-stop plate itself may shift or fall off due to insufficient welding strength.At this point,the water seepage channel that should have been blocked will re-form:water can continuously seep along the gap between the screw and the water-stop plate,or the gap between the water-stop plate and the concrete,and eventually penetrate the wall,causing leakage.
2.Insecure Welding Also Aggravates Other Leakage Risks
In addition to directly creating water seepage channels,problems with water-stop plate welding may indirectly amplify leakage hazards:
Gap Defects During Concrete Pouring:A water-stop plate with insecure welding is prone to shaking or tilting during concrete vibration,making it impossible for the concrete around the water-stop plate to be fully compacted.This leads to tiny honeycombs or pores,which connect with the welding gaps of the water-stop plate and further expand the water seepage path.
Leakage Aggravation Caused by Later Structural Deformation:During use,the wall may undergo slight deformation due to temperature changes,settlement,etc.If the welding strength of the water-stop plate is insufficient,the deformation will cause the weld to crack completely.The originally minor leakage will gradually expand,and may even lead to more serious problems such as wall dampness,mildew,and wall peeling.
In summary,the welding firmness of the water-stop plate is crucial for the water-proof function of water-stop through-wall screws.Once the welding fails to meet standards,its water-stop function will be damaged,leading to wall leakage.Therefore,during construction,strict inspection of the welding quality of the water-stop plate is necessary(e.g.,no cracks or cold welding on the weld surface,and confirmation of welding strength through tapping tests or non-destructive testing)to avoid leaving leakage hidden dangers due to welding problems.
