Double-Ended Wall Bolt:English Introduction
A Double-Ended Wall Bolt, also commonly known as a Through Bolt,Sleeve Anchor,or Double-Expansion Anchor,is a heavy-duty mechanical fastener designed for securing objects into hollow walls, masonry blocks,or other base materials where only one side is accessible.
Its primary function is to create a strong, reliable, and permanent clamping force by expanding within the cavity of the wall material, making it an essential component in construction, manufacturing, and DIY projects.
Key Features:
Dual-Ended Design:As the name implies,it features two distinct ends:
Threaded End:One end has a standard machine thread(often metric or imperial)designed to accept a nut and washer. This is the side on the accessible part of the wall where the object is mounted.
Expansion End:The opposite end is cone-shaped and is part of an expansion clip or sleeve.
Expansion Mechanism:The bolt is inserted through a pre-drilled hole and through the item being mounted. As the nut is tightened,it pulls the threaded bolt shaft upward. This action forces the cone-shaped end into the expansion sleeve, causing it to flare out and press firmly against the interior walls of the base material. This creates a powerful clamping force.
High Load Capacity:Due to this expansion mechanism across a wide area within the wall cavity,double-ended wall bolts offer superior pull-out(tensile)and shear strength compared to many other hollow-wall anchors.
Common Applications:
Mounting heavy shelving brackets and racks.
Securing large cabinets and kitchen units to walls.
Installing handrails,grab bars,and safety fixtures.
Anchoring machinery and equipment to masonry walls.
Fixing structural timbers and frames to blockwork.
General heavy-duty fastening in hollow concrete blocks, brick, and other masonry.
Advantages:
Exceptional Strength:Ideal for supporting significant static weights.
Versatility:Suitable for a wide range of solid and hollow base materials.
Vibration Resistance:The mechanical expansion provides a secure hold that is less likely to loosen under vibration than some plastic anchors.
Permanent Installation:Once installed and tightened,it is intended to be a semi-permanent or permanent fixture.
Installation Overview:
Drill a Hole:Drill a clean hole into the wall material using the correct diameter masonry bit specified by the bolt manufacturer.
Clean the Hole:Remove all dust and debris from the hole to ensure a proper fit.
Insert the Bolt:Insert the bolt through the fixture to be mounted and into the pre-drilled hole.
Tighten the Nut:Using a wrench, tighten the nut on the threaded end. This will draw the expansion end into the sleeve, causing it to expand and lock the bolt securely in place.
