PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A Fully Threaded Rod(FTR),most commonly known as an All-Thread Rod or simply Threaded Rod,is a versatile cylindrical bar fastener characterized by having a continuous, uniform external thread running along its entire length. It serves as a fundamental building block in construction, manufacturing, and electrical industries, functioning as a customizable-length bolt,a structural tie,or a component for creating modular frameworks and supports.

Its primary value lies in its extreme adaptability;it can be cut to any desired length on-site and combined with nuts and washers to create a vast array of fastening and suspension solutions.

Key Features&Design:

Continuous Threading:The defining feature is the uninterrupted helical ridge(thread)from one end of the rod to the other. This allows nuts to be positioned, adjusted, and secured at any point along the rod.

Materials and Finishes:Available in a wide range of materials to suit different environments, strength requirements, and budgets:

Carbon Steel:The most common and economical type, often with a zinc-plated finish for basic corrosion resistance.

Stainless Steel:Grades 304(general purpose)and 316(marine grade)offer superior corrosion resistance for outdoor,marine,food processing,and chemical environments.

Hot-Dip Galvanized:Provides a thick, durable zinc coating for heavy-duty outdoor and industrial applications exposed to the elements.

Brass and Aluminum:Used for decorative purposes, specific electrical applications,or in environments requiring non-magnetic properties.

Grades and Strength:Manufactured to various strength grades, similar to bolts, which indicate their tensile and yield strength.Common grades include:

ASTM A36:Low carbon steel,general purpose.

Grade 2:Standard strength.

Grade 5 and Grade 8:High strength.

ASTM A193 B7:A high-strength alloy steel used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications like valves and flanges.

Diameters and Lengths:Standardly available in a wide range of imperial(inch)and metric diameters. They are sold in long, straight lengths(typically 3,6,10,or 12 feet)that can be easily cut to the required size.

How It Is Used:

The functionality of an FTR is derived from its combination with nuts and washers:

As a Long Bolt:Cut to length,it can be used with a nut on each end to fasten objects together, effectively acting as a bolt of any custom size.

As a Hanger Rod:This is one of its most common applications. It is used to suspend electrical conduit, piping,HVAC ductwork, ceiling grids, and mechanical equipment from overhead structures.A nut is secured at the desired height on the rod to support a strap, bracket,or beam clamp.

As a Structural Tie:Used in through-bolt applications to connect structural elements(e.g.,a ledger board for a deck)across a wall or cavity, secured with nuts and large bearing plates on both ends to distribute the load.

As a Threaded Stud:One end can be anchored into a base material(e.g.,concrete using an epoxy adhesive or a mechanical anchor),while the exposed threads are used to mount equipment, panels,or fixtures.

To Make Standoffs and Spacers:Used to create a precise space between two objects by placing a sleeve or pipe over the rod and securing the assembly with nuts on either side.

In Framing and Bracing:Used with coupling nuts to join sections together, creating long tension members or cross-bracing in structures.

Common Applications:

Construction:Creating through-wall ties, anchoring sill plates to foundations, and securing structural frames.

Electrical:The primary application is as threaded rod for hanging cable trays, conduit, and junction boxes.

Mechanical/Piping:Supporting and bracing pipe runs and mechanical equipment.

Manufacturing:Assembling machinery,fabricating jigs,and creating adjustable frameworks.

Retail and Display:Constructing modular shelving systems and display units.

Advantages:

Ultimate Flexibility:Can be customized on-site to any length, eliminating the need to stock pre-made bolts of every conceivable size.

Cost-Effectiveness:A single long length of rod can be cut into multiple fasteners for various jobs, reducing material waste and inventory costs.

High Strength:Available in high-strength grades suitable for demanding structural and load-bearing applications.

Ease of Assembly and Adjustment:Nuts can be easily moved and re-positioned along the thread, allowing for fine-tuning,leveling,and alignment during installation.

Installation and Handling:

Cutting:Can be easily cut to length with a reciprocating saw, band saw,or angle grinder with a cut-off wheel.

Thread Protection:The ends are often sharp after cutting;thread-protector nuts or caps can be used to protect the threads from damage and prevent injury.

Nut Driving:Nuts can be run along the length of the rod quickly using a power drill with a nut-setter attachment, significantly speeding up installation.
